Zinc Scrap
Roofing zinc, gutters, fabrication offcuts and industrial zinc scrap
Zinc Scrap is generated by both the construction and industrial sectors. In building renovation and demolition, it is commonly recovered as roofing sheets, gutters, valleys, flashing, downpipes, strips and other architectural zinc components. Industrial zinc scrap may include cutting offcuts, sheet, strip, clean manufacturing scrap, solid zinc parts and sacrificial anodes generated by workshops, factories and industrial facilities. Typical suppliers include roofing contractors, zinc workers, demolition and strip-out companies, construction-site recovery operators, workshops, manufacturers and industrial plants producing zinc scrap or production offcuts. Old zinc normally develops a dull grey or blue-grey patina over time. This natural surface oxidation does not prevent the metal from being recycled. Zinc scrap must not be confused with galvanised steel. Galvanised steel is primarily steel with only a thin zinc coating and is therefore classified as ferrous scrap rather than solid zinc. At Bull Métal, zinc should be kept as free as possible from steel fixings, wood, plastic, lead, bitumen, roofing membranes and other foreign materials. Clean industrial production scrap should also be segregated from other metals to preserve a homogeneous zinc grade. Zamak should not automatically be mixed with clean zinc scrap. It is a zinc-based alloy containing other elements and may require separate grading. Large volumes and site collections: Bull Métal can assess direct collection for major roofing projects, demolition sites and regular industrial zinc scrap streams. Bull Métal tip: separate zinc at source from lead, copper, steel and construction debris. For factories and workshops, dedicated storage for zinc offcuts helps maintain a clean, higher-quality scrap stream.
